Carbon Monoxide

Carbon Monoxide

Summary

In this article we will be discussing all things carbon monoxide. Carbon Monoxide is an odorless gas that can be deadly. Carbon monoxide is produced when things are burned such as gas, wood, propane, or charcoal. Smoke from fires and engines also produce carbon monoxide.

Description

Why is Carbon Monoxide Deadly?

If you happen to be in a closed space with carbon monoxide, that is where the danger comes in. Once you’ve inhaled carbon monoxide, it begins to replace oxygen in the blood which then prevents oxygen from getting to tissues and organs. This is what ultimately leads to death.

Did you know that some fun social settings come with a side of possible carbon monoxide poisoning? You’re going out for a night out in the city and decide to stop at the bar for drinks and hookah. Studies have linked carbon monoxide poising to smoking hookah or Shisha.  According to Public Health Insider “In the typical one-hour hookah session, the user inhales 100 to 200 times as much smoke as they would from a single cigarette. This often leads to significant increases in the concentration of CO in the body.  High concentrations of CO can result in CO poisoning.”

What are the symptoms of Carbon Monoxide poisoning?

In the photo below, you can review how to spot the signs of carbon monoxide poisoning. The levels go from mild, to medium, to severe. It helpful to know all.

How to detect carbon monoxide?

You may be wondering how would someone spot carbon monoxide since there is no odor. The best way to detect the odorless gas is by using a carbon monoxide detector. The design is similar to a smoke detector. There are digital detectors, plug in detectors, ceiling detectors, and a combination of a smoke and carbon monoxide detector in one. The photo below is hopefully something you’ve seen in your home, work place, and business around you. If you do not have a detector, I strongly suggest you invest in one. It could save all of the lives in your home.
