Tick Removal

In order to decrease the chances of transmission of disease from ticks to humans, it is essential to perform regular & thorough tick checks after being in tick-friendly environments. Checking yourself often ensures that you have the chance to remove the tick as quick as possible. The most assured and easiest way to remove a tick is with a pair of fine tip tweezers.

  1. Using your tweezers grasp the tick as close to the skin’s surface as possible.
  2. Pull directly upwards with the tick applying steady and even pressure throughout.

DO NOT TWIST

DO NOT JERK

AND ESPECIALLY DO NOT BURN THE TICK OFF!!!

This will cause the tick’s mouth to break off still embedded in the skin.

  1. Should you find yourself with mouth parts in you, do your best to remove them with clean tweezers. If you are incapable of removing all of it, simply allow the wound to heal.
  2. After removing the tick, be sure to clean up the wound and wash your hands with soapy water, disinfectant, or iodine scrub.
  3. NEVER CRUSH A TICK WITH YOUR FINGERS.
  4. Place the tick in a container of alcohol. You can save it for testing and identification should you develop symptoms.

  1. They’re good to burn if they haven’t planted, burned one while it was crawling, the little scream is funny as hell lol
